Michelle Nance, Director

A Dedicated Early Childhood Educator

Michelle Nance joins the New City staff, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion that has been cultivated over more than 35 years in the field of early childhood education. Michelle's career has been a tapestry woven with countless moments of joy, challenges, and profound growth. From the very first day she stepped into a classroom, her dedication to nurturing young minds has only deepened, shaping not only the lives of the children she has taught but also her own.

The foundation of Michelle's teaching philosophy is built on the belief that every child is unique and capable of great things. With Christ embedded in her approach, she has always strived to create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn. This holistic approach encompasses not only academic skills but also social and emotional development, ensuring that each child feels supported and encouraged in every aspect of their growth.

Michelle envisions New City Kids Care as an institution where children can grow, develop, and deepen their understanding of Christ. Give us a call at 310-616-3049 for more information on how your child can become a part of this wonderful program.

Mrs. Heather Alcantar, Teacher

Meet Heather Alcantar

I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at New City Kids Care during this inaugural season. As New City is my home church, it has been particularly special to engage with the children during the crucial after-school hours through leading lessons in cooking, baking, art, and music. My approach prioritizes fun, while also introducing historical events, holiday traditions, and information about notable individuals across various fields. During these enjoyable and educational sessions, I strive to incorporate faith-based principles and remind each child that they are cherished in the eyes of God.

My professional journey boasts over three decades of diverse experience across both secular and faith-based children's programs, as well as teaching roles in public and private schools. I have imparted knowledge in various subjects including life skills, art, music, reading, writing, and special education. My academic background includes a BA in Art from Pepperdine University and teaching credentials from California State University, Los Angeles.

Mrs. Stacy Hensel, Teacher

Introducing Stacy Hensel

An Educator and Community Member

My name is Stacy Hensel. I have been a Sunday school teacher at New City Church for ten years, and this year I'm excited to take on a new role as an after-school teacher at N.C.K.C. Additionally, for the past five years, I've taught First Grade using the Memoria Press curriculum at Highlands Latin South Bay.

I grew up in Westchester, California, attended local Catholic schools, and engaged in various community activities. My involvement includes serving on the board of my children's co-op preschools, holding chair positions in their Cub Scout packs, teaching religious education at American Martyrs and Hope Chapel del Rey, and helping to establish several charter schools in our area. I also homeschooled my children for several years, becoming actively involved in that community.

I live with my husband of 25 years and our two sons. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, visiting local museums, spending quality time with family, and watching documentaries.

I am dedicated to continuing my work in education and community service and look forward to future opportunities.
